HERMA is donating 888 trees to an afforestation campaign

• The trees will be planted in several regions in Baden-Württemberg from April 2021 onwards.

• The campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Cleven Foundation and Hitradio antenne 1, a radio station.

• HERMA is aiming for climate neutrality in 2021 and sees this afforestation campaign as another opportunity to actively contribute to climate protection.

HERMA is contributing 888 trees as a premium partner of the initiative “Give the gift of a future – plant trees”. This is a joint initiative between the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Cleven Foundation and Hitradio antenne 1, a radio station. The trees will be planted in several regions in Baden-Württemberg from April 2021 onwards and then cared for by employees of the State Forestry Office. “Our native forests are severely stressed and badly damaged by heat, drought and other factors. Through our commitment, we want to make a small contribution to changing this situation.” This was how HERMA’s managing director Sven Schneller explained the company’s decision to take part in the campaign as a premium partner by providing 888 trees.

As a paper processing company, HERMA always places great emphasis on raw materials from sustainable forestry and works exclusively with certified suppliers. “However, specifically playing a part in afforestation in our own region with long-term prospects is something that our owners support,” added HERMA’s managing director. “In recent months, forests have often been a substitute for holidays and other leisure activities – also for our employees and their families. It’s nice that we can give something back,” especially as trees bind large amounts of the climate-relevant gas CO2 and therefore really contribute to climate protection. Of course, planting trees alone cannot replace the other efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. But it is an important building block when it comes to slowing further global warming. The initiative “Give the gift of a future – plant trees” is also a step in the right direction in this regard and fits not least with the measures that HERMA has taken to actively contribute to climate protection.

“We have to pull out all the stops for the climate”

HERMA itself announced last autumn that for the first time in 2021 all emissions within its own sphere of influence (scope 1 and 2) will be climate-neutral. This means that the company then produces self-adhesive material, labels and labelling machines without leaving its own CO2 footprint. Climate neutrality is achieved through a mix of different measures. They range from the use of green electricity and so-called “green” gas to intelligent energy concepts and compensatory measures, which are carried out in cooperation with myclimate. “We will only slow down climate change if everyone pulls out all the stops, both private individuals and companies,” emphasised HERMA’s managing director. “With this in mind, we hope that the initiative “Give the gift of a future – plant trees” will find many more friends.
